The Parcel Locker Revolution: Jonathan White, CEO, LockerQuest
Published last month, the latest Geopost e-shopper barometer 2025 has revealed a significant shift in how consumers prefer to receive their parcels.
While this may not be news for businesses like LockerQuest who, as location experts, are meeting the growing demand, it confirms the progress we are seeing across the UK.
For the first time, parcel lockers have overtaken parcel shops to become the second most preferred delivery method across Europe, trailing only home delivery.
This development represents more than just a trend; it signals a fundamental change in consumer expectations around convenience and control.
Based on interviews with over 30,700 consumers across 22 European countries, the survey provides clear evidence that modern shoppers are prioritising flexibility in their delivery options.
At LockerQuest, we have witnessed this shift firsthand, and we are only at the start of what will be a transformative period for the parcel locker industry.
The rising demand for parcel lockers is driven by one critical factor: time. Today’s consumers lead increasingly busy lives, and the traditional model of waiting at home for a delivery no longer works. Parcel lockers offer a simple solution.
Shoppers can collect their parcels at a time and location that suits their schedule.
The Geopost survey shows that younger generations, particularly Gen Z, are leading this change. They understand that convenience means having control over when and where they interact with services.
They are not willing to rearrange their schedules around delivery windows. Instead, they expect delivery services to adapt to their lifestyles.
What makes parcel lockers appealing is the combination of flexibility and security they provide. Consumers no longer need to worry about missed deliveries, stolen parcels from doorsteps, or the inconvenience of traveling to distant collection points during limited opening hours. Parcel lockers are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are typically located in convenient, high-traffic areas.
At LockerQuest, we are committed to expanding our parcel locker solutions to meet these changing consumer needs.
We partner with leading parcel locker operators including YEEP!, Amazon, Thinventory, Shift, and InPost, helping to deploy convenient out of home points across the UK.
At the end of our last financial year (May 31st) our network grew to 1,020 lockers, representing a 78% increase year on year, and since then, we have seen an increase of a further 293 installed lockers, demonstrating the strong demand for these services.
We have big ambitions to keep expanding our network of space partners as parcel lockers become more popular. Our goal to manage 1,600 lockers by the end of 2025 is certainly on track, with continued focus on retail, convenience stores, petrol forecourts, car parks and community sites.
The future of parcel delivery is not about replacing home delivery, but about providing genuine choice. As the data shows, when consumers are given flexible, convenient alternatives, they embrace them enthusiastically. The rapid rise of parcel lockers in delivery preferences is just the beginning of this evolution.
